The Haft Tapeh Sugarcane Workers’ Syndicate reported on July 29, 2017 that ten workers who had been arrested by the security forces following their protest actions in recent days were temporarily released on bail today. At this time, all arrested workers have been released on bail. There are fears that these workers and a number of others who have been targeted by the authorities and the intelligence agencies might face trial and sentences in near future. In the meantime, workers’ protests for their unmet demands has continued today.
The Farsi translation of the Haft Tapeh Sugarcane Workers’ Syndicate statement is as follows (The original is also attached and has been posted on the telegram channel of Tehran bus workers’ syndicate –Vahed Syndicate- and other Farsi websites):
*On Saturday, July 29, 2017, ten arrested workers at the Haft Tapeh Sugarcane Company, who had been detained in Dezful, after being tried in Susa, were released by the prosecutor temporarily after handing over a legal bond or their paystubs. Meanwhile, Mr. Afshar, the CEO of the Haft Tape Sugar Cane Company, who had been summoned to the court, provided explanations to the court regarding the non-payment of wages and benefits to workers and retirees.
The names of nine arrested workers are as follows: Rostam and Hamid Abdollahzadeh, Ahmad and Yaghoub Alkasir, Adel Samaeen, Ebrahim Zahiri, Behzad Nazari, Sabah Savari and Ahmad Moradi. The presence of a large number of Haft Tapeh workers in front of the courthouse in support of their arrested colleagues was notable and shows the unity of the workers despite the existing security environment.
We are grateful to all the workers, organizations and independent labour bodies in Iran and internationally who have continuously expressed their support for the workers and their families during this time.
With the hope of solidarity among all workers of the world!
