The International Solidarity Commission of the Industrial Workers of the World extends its solidarity to the workers of the Polski Theatre in Wrocław, who have been dismissed for collective action to improve their working conditions.
Director Cezary Morawski started to change both the organisation of the workplace and the artistic programme with clear intention to move it towards a more traditional and “patriotic” theater. In September the workers organized in the Ogólnopolski Związek Zawodowy „Inicjatywa Pracownicza” (OZZ IP) workplace section in Polski Theater opened a collective dispute procedure demanding wage increases and employment guarantees. The demands were refused by the director and followed by anti-union repressions.
More information to be found at the Website of the Workers’ Initiative Union.
Along with our sister union OZZ IP we see the behaviour of the director as an unacceptable attack on workers rights and the union. We do not accept the anti-union motivated dismissal of the 12 workers. The IWW stands in solidarity with OZZ IP and the workers at the Polski Theatre, supporting their fight for better labour conditions.
