To our dear fellow workers from the International Alliance in Support of Workers in Iran (IASWI):
The Industrial Workers of the World wish to express our Solidarity with the family, comrades and friends in sorrow at the death of Shahrokh Zamani.
Shahrokh Zamani lost his life in the prisons of the anti-worker regime of Iran on September 13, 2015 while incarcerated in Gohardasht (Rajai Shahr) prison. He was one of the most well-known workers and activists of the Iranian labour movement, a militant anti-capitalist and a courageous socialist.
Our friends and fellow workers in Iran and the IASWI frequently report about the new wave of repressions in the Islamic Republic of Iran. The Rouhani government is responsible for arrests, torture and murder of workers and political activists in Iran.
Like our friends we sense that the safety and lives of jailed workers and political prisoners are in great danger in the prisons of Iran.
We are alarmed by the endless list of cruel and unacceptable treatments against workers who organize for freedom and better conditions, like Mahmoud Salehi, Ali Nejati of Haft Tapeh, Rasoul Bodaghi and Behnam Ebrahimzadeh, just to name a few.
We are filled with indignation to hear about Shahrokh Zamani’s and Kouroush Bakhshandeh’s passing and the current situation caused by Iran’s government. We support the workers of Iran with our strongest weapon: Solidarity.
An injury to one is an injury to all!
Shahrokh will be missed.
